A time-traveling champion protects her ancestors from a future criminal.

Last updated

Lazer Tag Academy is an animated television series created by Ruby-Spears Productions, inspired by Worlds of Wonder's Lazer Tag brand. It originally aired on NBC from September 13 to December 6, 1986, with reruns continuing until August 22, 1987. The show is notable for its numerous popular culture references and was later rebroadcast under the title Lazer Patrol on the Sci Fi Channel.

Synopsis

In the year 3010, Jamie Jaren is the Lazer Tag Champion. She travels back in time to 1987 to protect her ancestors, teenagers Tom and Beth and toddler Nicky, from Draxon Drear, a master criminal from 2061. Draxon was unwittingly revived from suspended animation by Jamie's teacher Professor Olanga after a spaceship hijacking accident left him in that state; his ship crashed into the Atlantic Ocean. Professor Olanga's analysis reveals that Draxon is a relative of Jamie.

Draxon has traveled back in time to destroy Beth because she would eventually create the Starlyte gun and Starsensor, two real-life Lazer Tag products worn by Jamie. These machines enabled Jamie to compete in Lazer Tag tournaments and, in certain hands, can manipulate matter and energy on a molecular scale and, with the Starsensor, travel through time. Draxon leads genetically-enhanced humanoids called Skuggs, originally created to serve humanity, who accidentally reawaken him centuries in the future.

Beth and Tom's parents Andrew and Genna Jaren believe Jamie is a foreign exchange student, while schoolmate Charles Ferguson is suspicious and tries to learn her secret.
