Back to the Future (TV series)
An animated series continuing the time-travel adventures of Doc Brown.
Last updated
The animated series is a science-fiction comedy adventure based on the Back to the Future film trilogy.[1] From September 14, 1991, through December 26, 1992, CBS broadcast the series, and reruns continued until August 28, 1993.[1]
Making and release
The series is set after the events of Back to the Future Part III, with Dr. Emmett Brown living on a farm in Hill Valley with his family.[2] Time travel is achieved through a rebuilt DeLorean that has voice-activated "time circuits" and can fold into a suitcase.[2] The complete series was released on DVD on October 20, 2015, both individually and as part of a collection with the three films.[3] According to Bob Gale, the series creator, the animated show exists within a separate alternate timeline.[4]
Bill Nye made his first appearance on a nationally televised program in this series.[4] Between 1993 and 1994, 18 of the 26 episodes were released across nine VHS tapes and three laserdisc sets.[3] The 30th Anniversary Trilogy set includes, as extra content, the first episode from each season.[3] On June 14, 2016, Universal put out a DVD for Season 1, and on September 13, 2016, a DVD for Season 2.[5]
