Tremonti (band)
American heavy metal band formed by Mark Tremonti.
Tremonti is an American heavy metal band led by Mark Tremonti, who handles lead vocals and guitar. He is already well known as the lead guitarist for Creed and Alter Bridge. The current lineup includes rhythm guitarist Eric Friedman, bassist Tanner Keegan, and drummer Ryan Bennett. Past members include bassist Wolfgang Van Halen, drummer Garrett Whitlock, and Brian Marshall, who played bass in 2012.
What began as a solo project for Mark Tremonti grew into a full band. They have put out six studio albums: *All I Was* (2012), *Cauterize* (2015), *Dust* (2016), *A Dying Machine* (2018), *Marching in Time* (2021), and *The End Will Show Us How* (2025). The band’s sound is noticeably different from Tremonti’s other groups, leaning more toward thrash metal while keeping melodic vocals.
Mark Tremonti first talked about making a solo album in 2010. He said his two main bands, Creed and Alter Bridge, are very different from each other, and he writes so much material that some songs would never be used if they didn’t fit either group. He plays guitar and sings lead on every track. Former Submersed members Eric Friedman and Garrett Whitlock played on the debut record. Tremonti described the music as “melody driven” and, in 2011, said it would be a heavier thrash metal album—heavier than either Creed or Alter Bridge, with lots of guitar solos.
The first album, *All I Was*, came out on July 17, 2012, on FRET12 Records. The single “You Waste Your Time” hit number 10 on the iTunes Rock Songs Chart the day after release. The band’s first concert was that same day in Orlando, Florida, with Friedman, Whitlock, and Brian Marshall on bass. Wolfgang Van Halen replaced Marshall as touring bassist in September 2012.
After working with Alter Bridge on their album *Fortress* in 2013, Tremonti returned to record a second album in 2014 with Van Halen on bass. *Cauterize* was released on June 9, 2015. It was recorded alongside a follow-up album, *Dust*, which came out on April 29, 2016. Tremonti said he split the songs between the two records to keep each one balanced dynamically, with no single theme or leftover material.
The fourth album, *A Dying Machine*, was released on June 8, 2018, through Napalm Records, produced by Michael Baskette. Tremonti supported Iron Maiden on a European tour that June.

Lore & Background
The band originally consisted of Friedman and Whitlock alongside Alter Bridge and Creed bassist Brian Marshall as a touring musician. Wolfgang Van Halen replaced Marshall as a touring bassist in September 2012. The band's second and third albums, Cauterize (2015) and Dust (2016), were recorded together, with Tremonti splitting songs evenly between them to ensure dynamic flow. In late 2018, drummer Garrett Whitlock took a leave of absence for undisclosed personal reasons, and Ryan Bennett filled in, later becoming a permanent replacement. The band's sixth album, The End Will Show Us How, was released on January 10, 2025.
Reader's Guide
Tremonti holds significance as a vehicle for Mark Tremonti to explore a heavier, thrash metal-influenced sound that was often rejected as 'too metal' by his bandmates in Alter Bridge and Creed. The band's music is markedly different from his main projects, with AllMusic describing the debut as 'heavy, fast thrash metal' with a 'strongly melodic core'. The band has maintained a consistent output of six studio albums over thirteen years, demonstrating Tremonti's prolific songwriting. The inclusion of former members Wolfgang Van Halen and Brian Marshall, as well as the permanent addition of Ryan Bennett, reflects the band's evolution from a solo project to a stable group. Its legacy lies in providing an outlet for more aggressive material while retaining melodic vocals, bridging the gap between mainstream rock and thrash metal.
