Arkadian Warriors
A 2007 Xbox Live Arcade dungeon crawler with three character classes.
Arkadian Warriors is an action role-playing game for the Xbox 360's Xbox Live Arcade. It was developed by Wanako Games and published by Vivendi Games under the Sierra Online label. The game was first revealed at the 2007 Leipzig Games Convention, with its release following on December 12, 2007.
In the game, players choose from three character classes: Soldier, Archer, or Sorcerer. They can play alone or with one other player, either locally or through Xbox Live. The objective is to save the land of Arkadia by completing 20 quests, which ultimately lead to defeating the evil Gorgon. Quests are given in a town hub, where other activities are also available. Most missions are simple, such as collecting a set number of items or eliminating specific enemies. Dungeons are randomly generated, and players fight large groups of enemies using class-specific abilities. As characters gain experience, they level up and learn new spells or skills. During combat, a meter fills up, allowing a temporary transformation into a beastly form—a phoenix, lion, or dragon, depending on the class.
The game received poor reviews. IGN gave it a "Mediocre" rating of 5.5 out of 10, criticizing its repetitive gameplay and lack of variety in dungeon and mission design. GameSpot awarded a similar 4.5 out of 10, also faulting the generic and repetitive gameplay. Trigames.NET contributor Patrick Hickey Jr. described the game as feeling like a haphazard clone of many better titles, leaving players wanting to play something else.

Reader's Guide
Arkadian Warriors is a straightforward dungeon crawler that offers randomly generated dungeons and class-specific abilities. Players battle large numbers of enemies, gain experience to increase power and learn new spells or skills, and can temporarily morph into a beastly form—phoenix, lion, or dragon—depending on class. The game's significance lies in its role as an early Xbox Live Arcade title attempting to bring classic dungeon-crawling mechanics to a digital download platform. However, its legacy is marred by poor critical reception: IGN gave it a 5.7/10, calling it 'mindless' with a lack of variety; GameSpot awarded a 5.0/10, similarly criticizing generic gameplay; and Trigames.NET described it as 'a haphazard clone of a dozen other good games.' The game is often cited as an example of how repetitive design and generic content can undermine a potentially enjoyable genre.
