Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage?!!

A 2012 action-adventure game based on the Adventure Time series.

Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage?!!

Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage?!! is an action-adventure game that came out in 2012. It was made by WayForward Technologies and published by D3 Publisher for the Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS, and it's based on the cartoon *Adventure Time*. In North America, it hit store shelves on November 20, 2012, and showed up on the Nintendo eShop on December 13, 2012. The 3DS version later reached Europe and Australia on February 13, 2014, but only as a digital download. The game got pulled from online stores in December 2016 because of licensing problems.

When you're out in the Land of Ooo, the view is from above, but entering a dungeon switches things to a 2D side-scrolling style, similar to *Zelda II: The Adventure of Link*. After finishing the main story, there's a second quest to play. You'll find lots of items from the show, like the Tiger Claw and Royal Tart, to help you out. Some food items heal you, and combining them can either boost your health (like hamburger with ketchup) or hurt it (like hamburger with maple syrup). The game has four main areas to explore: the Grasslands, Candy Kingdom, Ice Kingdom, and Red Rock Pass. As you go, Jake learns new stretchy powers, such as a wavy punch, an ear shield, and the ability to turn into a bridge, dinghy, or parasol.

The story kicks off because the Ice King is building a Garbage Princess from the junk Finn and Jake leave around. It's up to the duo to fix things.

The game was first announced on March 23, 2012, by WayForward and *Adventure Time* creator Pendleton Ward, who helped as a creative consultant. Jake Kaufman wrote the music, which is all original except for the title theme.

A collector's edition for both DS and 3DS was revealed on July 12, 2012. It includes a steel case shaped like the Enchiridion, a poster of Ooo, a *Book of Beasts*, and a stylus that looks like Finn's sword.

Critics gave the game mixed reviews, earning a 67% score on Metacritic. Some complained it was too short. IGN's Lucas M. Thomas, a big *Adventure Time* fan, gave it an 8.5 out of 10, saying it was a great adventure with almost no complaints. GamingUnion.net's Spencer Pressly scored it 7 out of 10, noting it was what most fans would want but should have been a downloadable title because of its length.
