Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I Don't Know!

Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I Don't Know! is a 2013 action-adventure game from WayForward Technologies. It was published by D3 Publisher in North America and by Namco Bandai Games in PAL regions, releasing on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows, Nintendo 3DS, and Wii U. As the second game based on the *Adventure Time* cartoon, it follows *Hey Ice King! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage?!!* (2012). The game features voice acting from major characters and supports four-player cooperative multiplayer, though the 3DS version lacks this feature. It was removed from digital storefronts on March 31, 2018, due to licensing issues.

In the story, Princess Bubblegum asks the player to investigate the secret Royal Dungeon beneath the Land of Ooo. Prisoners keep escaping from what should be an inescapable prison, and Bubblegum is baffled, requesting the player explore the dungeon because "I don't know." As the game progresses, more characters become playable. Ice King is briefly suspected of releasing the prisoners, but he is only there to build large ice statues of Fionna and Cake. The game ends with a battle against a giant pink blob, which turns out to be Princess Bubblegum's mother. About a thousand years ago, she gestated inside the blob and was later expelled. Bubblegum explains she grew up independently and became a princess, keeping the blob in the Royal Dungeon. Over time, the blob expanded and accidentally freed the prisoners. Ice King angrily demands to know Bubblegum's age; she replies she is 827 years old, horrifying him. Finn questions her secrecy, but Marceline defends her, saying others would do the same for their parents. After the fight, the blob cannot reform and turns into bubbles, one of which kisses Bubblegum on the cheek.

Players can control Finn, Jake, Marceline, Ice King, Cinnamon Bun, Flame Princess, Lumpy Space Princess, and Lemongrab. Peppermint Butler, Gunter, and Ice King were released as DLC for Steam purchasers and later added to console versions. Each character has a unique special attack for damaging enemies or regaining health. The game is a top-down, isometric hack-and-slash dungeon crawler similar to the *Diablo* series. Players collect treasure in the dungeon to upgrade character stats, interact with other characters, and buy items from the vendor Choose Goose.
