1969 Intercontinental Cup Final (Milan vs Estudiantes)
Milan beat Estudiantes on aggregate in a notoriously violent two-legged tie.
The 1969 Intercontinental Cup, the tenth edition, was a two-legged tie between Milan, the 1968-69 European Cup winners, and Copa Libertadores winners Estudiantes de La Plata. Milan won the first leg 3-0 at San Siro on 8 October 1969 and, despite losing the return leg 2-1 at La Bombonera in Buenos Aires on 22 October, took the title on aggregate.
Lore & Background
The second leg became infamous for the violence of Estudiantes' players: Néstor Combin was left bleeding after being struck in the face by Ramón Aguirre Suárez, Eduardo Manera pushed goalkeeper Fabio Cudicini and bit Saul Malatrasi, and balls were thrown at Milan players warming up before kick-off.
