AC Milan became the first Italian club to win the European Cup by beating two-time defending champions Benfica 2-1 in the 1963 final at Wembley Stadium in London on 22 May 1963. It was the first European Cup final without a Spanish team.
Lore & Background
Jose Altafini scored both of Milan's goals. Milan had reached the final once before, losing 3-2 to Real Madrid in 1958, and the twenty-year-old Gianni Rivera played a key role in the win.
