Background

Rutherford described "Get Real" as having a strong melody that is vague and ethereal, comparing it to Giorgio Moroder and specifically to "I Feel Love" rather than acid house.

Critical reception

Jerry Smith of Music Week called it a "burbling House style dance track" but found it pedestrian despite its breathy atmospherics. Wee Papa Girl Rappers' Sandra Lawrence, guest reviewing for Number One, said she liked acid music but found this one mellow and commercial. Melody Maker in 1989 described it as a "slab of Acid for the radical dance faction," and FutureMusic in 2004 likened it to Giorgio Moroder meets Kraftwerk with a 303.
