Broken Rock Reservation
The reservation that borders the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch.
The Broken Rock Indian Reservation is the reservation neighbouring the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. Its chief, Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), seeks to reclaim the land the ranch stands on, which he believes was stolen from the Native Americans who originally lived there.
Lore & Background
Kayce Dutton first lived on the reservation with his wife Monica and their son before moving back to the ranch; Monica taught at a local school there before becoming a professor at Montana State University in Bozeman. In the first two seasons Rainwater and the developer Dan Jenkins both tried to take the ranch from John Dutton, and the three then joined forces against the Beck brothers. At the end of the series Kayce sold the ranch to the Broken Rock Reservation to preserve the Dutton legacy. In the prequel 1923 the reservation's chief is Runs His Horse, father of Teonna Rainwater, and the Crow shepherd Hank Plenty Clouds comes from there.
