Taiwanese whisky is whisky produced in Taiwan, with the Kavalan Distillery being the most prominent producer. In 2015, the Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique was named the best single malt whisky in the world at the World Whiskies Awards, and in 2025, the Kavalan Solist Fino Sherry Single Cask won Whisky of the Year at the International Whisky Competition. Taiwan is the fourth largest Scotch whisky market by value, and uniquely, single malts are the leading whisky category there.

History
For decades, only the state-run Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation could make alcohol, a monopoly that ended in 2002 when Taiwan joined the World Trade Organization. Three years later, the King Car Group opened the island’s first dedicated whisky distillery, Kavalan.
TTL launched its own whisky brand, Omar, in 2008, releasing its first single malt in 2013. Taiwanese whisky first turned heads in 2010 when one of its bottles beat several Scotches at a Scottish competition. The 2010s saw the rise of craft distilleries: Bunnyville in 2014, Holy Distillery in 2016, Maoweiki in 2022, and ChiShang, which broke ground in 2024.
As a market
Taiwan’s whisky market is both mature and refined, ranking third globally for single malt consumption behind the United States and France. It is the only market where single malt outsells blended whisky.
Pernod Ricard has called Taiwanese drinkers “discerning and advanced,” even crafting special editions just for them. Whisky is commonly brought from home to banquets, where it has replaced cognac as the preferred spirit since the 1990s, with grape wine also gaining ground. Collecting whisky has become a popular pastime.
