Abigail "Abbey" Bartlet is the First Lady and Jed Bartlet's wife, played by Stockard Channing. She is a physician.

She and Jed agreed he would serve only one term because of his multiple sclerosis.

Background

In season two it emerges that she had been secretly treating his illness. She gives up her medical licence for the rest of his term as a result.
