Walk and talk
The show's signature shot: characters talking as they stride down White House corridors.
The walk and talk is a technique in which characters hold a conversation while walking somewhere. It became a trademark of The West Wing.
The show used long Steadicam tracking shots that lead characters down hallways as they talk.
Background
Director and executive producer Thomas Schlamme championed the shot. It shows how busy the staff are, using even the time between rooms.
