Sadeas rose to prominence during the unification wars not through martial prowess but by treating conflict as a transaction. In The Way of Kings, he is introduced as the general leading the Alethi army against the Parshendi on the Shattered Plains, a biome of vast chasms where bridgemen are forced to carry massive bridges under fire. His defining act occurs during the Battle of the Tower, the largest plateau in the region. After Dalinar Kholin and his troops successfully set a trap for the Parshendi, Sadeas retreated with his bridges, leaving Dalinar’s army to be slaughtered.
