Nobody Knows Anything

Pussy is suspected as an informant; Tony faces confusion.

The 11th episode of HBO's The Sopranos, "Nobody Knows Anything," aired on March 21, 1999. Frank Renzulli wrote it, and Henry J. Bronchtein directed it.

During a raid at Jimmy Altieri's social club, FBI agents uncover a stash of guns. Both Jimmy and Pussy Bonpensiero are arrested, but Pussy quickly gets released on bail. Vin Makazian tells Tony that Pussy is an FBI informant. Tony resists the idea, but Vin notes how easily Pussy walked after the raid. Tony demands to see an official report with Pussy's name, but Vin can't get it.

Pussy has stopped collecting payments due to back pain. Paulie, who sees the same doctor, learns there is nothing physically wrong with Pussy's back. Tony consults Dr. Melfi, who suggests back pain can stem from stress, like carrying a secret. Tony orders Paulie to wait until Pussy's wire is confirmed, so Paulie pressures Pussy into a bathhouse. Pussy refuses to undress, claiming his doctor said heat is bad for him. Silvio discovers Vin owes Pussy $30,000, which he thinks might be Vin's motive to have Pussy killed. Tony visits Pussy at home and questions him sympathetically, but gets no response. Feeling distrustful and confused, Tony tells Paulie he feels like he's walking into walls.

Vin has a personal relationship with a bordello madam and is there when police raid it. After being released from custody, Vin kills himself by jumping off a bridge. Jimmy is bailed out and visits Tony at home; Tony is surprised he got out so quickly. When Jimmy asks nosy questions about a Colombian drug heist, Tony dodges them, confirming his suspicion that Jimmy is the rat. He realizes that Jimmy and Pussy were arrested together, and Vin's source confused "two fat fucks with black hair." Pussy is no longer a suspect, but he has vanished.

Bitter that Tony sold her house, Livia tells Junior that several capos have placed their mothers at Green Grove retirement community and hold meetings there. Junior immediately suspects they are conspiring with Tony against him, so he orders Mikey and Chucky Signore to find hitmen from out of town.
