Lore & Background

In Twilight Princess it is a dungeon. In Skyward Sword Zelda and Impa use it to travel through time without the Master Sword. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom each have one in their starting area; in Tears of the Kingdom Link opens a door there to send the broken Master Sword to the missing Zelda in the past. The Breath of the Wild temple is the only one with no link to time travel.
