Thackery returns to the Knick; Speight's corpse is found.
"You're No Rose" is the twelfth episode of The Knick overall and the second of its second season. Written by the show's creators, Jack Amiel and Michael Begler, and directed by executive producer Steven Soderbergh, it first aired on Cinemax on October 23, 2015.
In the episode, Dr. John Thackery returns to the Knickerbocker Hospital and persuades the board to let him research a cure for addiction, but he steps down as Chief of Surgery. He also ends his relationship with Nurse Elkins, fearing his influence will harm her. Meanwhile, Inspector Speight's body is found in the docks. His death is ruled an accident, but Cornelia suspects foul play and, with Cleary's help, exhumes the coffin—only to find it empty. Dr. Edwards asks Thackery to assist with a retinal detachment surgery, but Thackery's withdrawal symptoms cause him to shake so badly that Edwards calls off the surgery. Thackery also begins hallucinating a girl he failed to save.
The episode was seen by an estimated 0.229 million households, with a 0.06 rating among adults 18–49—a 15% drop from the previous episode. Critics gave it extremely positive reviews, with Rotten Tomatoes reporting a 100% approval rating based on eight reviews.
