Robert Duvall
The actor who played consigliere Tom Hagen.
Robert Duvall (1931-2026) was an American actor and filmmaker. Coppola wanted him for Tom Hagen, the Corleones' adopted son and consigliere, from the start of production, and the role in The Godfather (1972) and The Godfather Part II (1974) was his first major critical success, bringing him an Academy Award nomination for the first film. He declined to return for The Godfather Part III unless he was paid a salary comparable to Al Pacino's, a condition that was not met. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Tender Mercies (1983).
