In the third-season finale Raj and Howard sign Sheldon up for online dating to find a woman compatible with him, and the service turns up the neurobiologist Amy Farrah Fowler. Amy joins the expanding core cast in seasons five to eight, and her relationship with Sheldon develops slowly from an intellectual connection into a romance.
