Game Modes

Marathon Mode requires players to clear a specified number of lines per level while scoring points; clearing multiple lines with one piece yields more points than the number cleared. There are fifteen levels, and the game ends after level fifteen is completed. Sprint Mode challenges players to clear forty lines as quickly as possible, with speed set to the lowest setting. Ultra Mode gives two minutes to score as many points as possible, with extra points for t-spins; if the player tops out, the score is not recorded. Survival Mode is similar to Marathon but with ten lines per level and twenty levels, each at higher speed; after beating all levels, a bonus semi-invisible level begins where blocks alternate between visible and invisible for increasing periods, and the player loses only when blocks reach the top. This mode is not on the Facebook version. This mode uses a different rotational system and has no hold feature, and is not available on Facebook.

Shutdown

On April 25, 2019, a banner on the Tetris Friends homepage announced the service would no longer be available after May 31, 2019, coinciding with the shutdown of Tetris Online, Inc. Around that time, all customization options were made free. Tetris Friends permanently shut down on May 31, 2019. An unofficial recreation called Notris Foes is in development.
