Making and release
In December 2021, AMC gave an eight-episode series order to Mayfair Witches.[1][4] Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford wrote and executive produced the series, with Spalding serving as showrunner.[1][2] AMC obtained the rights to develop film and TV projects from the Lives of the Mayfair Witches book series in May 2020.[5] Between April 25 and August 26, 2022, the first season was filmed in New Orleans.[6]
What the cited sources add
The Deadline Hollywood report states the series is based on the "Lives of the Mayfair Witches" trilogy.[1] Spalding and Ashford said Anne Rice's lens explored women who are "powerful, and often brutal, and always committed to subverting our current power structures."[1][2] Johnson said his good fortune as executive producer of Interview with the Vampire "has now been more than doubled" with what Spalding and Ashford are imagining.[1] Betsy Brandt was cast as a series regular for season 3, reuniting with executive producers Mark Johnson and Thomas Schnauz.[7]
Omar Maskati joined the season 3 cast in the role of Leo.[8]
