Shimmer and Shine

Shimmer and Shine is an animated television series created by Farnaz Esnaashari-Charmatz. Animation was handled by Guru Studio for the first two seasons and Xentrix Studios for seasons three and four, with production overseen by Nickelodeon Animation Studio. The show first aired on Nickelodeon's Nick Jr. block on August 24, 2015, and concluded after four seasons on February 9, 2020. Its story follows twin genie sisters, Shimmer and Shine, as they fulfill wishes for their human friend Leah. Starting March 19, 2018, new episodes were moved to the separate Nick Jr. Channel.

The first season takes place in the human world. A young girl named Leah is friends with the twin genies. Each day, Shimmer and Shine grant Leah three wishes, but they frequently make errors. Every episode involves Leah working with the genies to fix the problems they accidentally cause, all while hiding their existence from her next-door neighbor and best friend, Zac.

In the season one finale, the characters are transported to Zahramay Falls, a magical realm where Shimmer and Shine reside. Zac discovers the genies during this finale. In the second season, Leah reveals the genies to Zac, who then receives his own genie named Kaz. Shimmer and Shine continue granting Leah’s wishes in Zahramay Falls and befriend its ruler, Princess Samira. This season also introduces Samira’s pet peacock, Roya, and Leah’s pet fox, Parisa. The villainous sorceress Zeta appears, along with her dragon, Nazboo.

Shimmer, voiced by Eva Bella in the US and Mia Wiltshire in the UK, is an optimistic genie with peach skin, blue eyes, cyan jewels, a purple outfit, and cold red hair in a ponytail. She is enthusiastic and encouraging, loves cleaning (unlike her older sister), plays the tuba, and collects genie bottles and glitter. Shine, voiced by Isabella Cramp in the US and Elie Simons or Mia Hope in the UK, is a courageous genie with peach skin, purple eyes, pink jewels, a teal outfit with yellow shoes, and blue hair in a ponytail. She loves animals, is often hungry, and owns a Bengal tiger cub named Nahal. Her knowledge of magical creatures in Zahramay Falls is extensive. Unlike her younger sister, she hates cleaning. A running gag has Shine saying “It’s like I always say…” only to reveal she just invented whatever follows.
