History
CBS originally ordered a pilot hosted by Chris Kattan, but later reshot it with Joe Rogan as host. An unspecified number of episodes were ordered. Contestant recruitment began in March 2008. In December 2008, CBS announced the show would air on Saturdays starting January 3, 2009. Saturdays are the least-watched night of the week, leading to speculation that the network lacked faith in the program.
Gameplay
Game Show in My Head is a hidden camera show where contestants perform five tasks in front of strangers, instructed by the host via an earpiece. Each task is worth $5,000, and a bonus round allows contestants to double their money, for a maximum of $50,000. The show resembles the Nickelodeon game show You're On!, as strangers are unknowingly involved. Contestants on location and in studio are taped live. The premiere featured two back-to-back episodes on January 3, 2009, with contestants Shalisse Pekarcik and Craig Scime competing for $50,000 each.
