Overview

The show follows Madeline Wayne, a suburban housewife who feels restless after a decade of marriage to Charlie, a kind but dull man who secretly writes steamy romance novels as Crystal Love. Her closest friend is Doris, a shy divorcee who was once married to Bob, Charlie’s best friend and a middle-aged swinger. Charlie’s editor, Annie, is romantically interested in him. To escape her predictable life, Madeline throws herself into fads like seaweed health foods, exercise clubs, and ladies-only clubs with male strippers. The comedy relies on slapstick and marital mix-ups reminiscent of I Love Lucy. This sitcom was the first production from Carsey-Werner, the company that later produced Cosby (adapted from a British show) with Kahn from 1996 until her death in 1999.
