Production
The series originated from a social media pitch by Mark Long in June 2020 for a season featuring old-school cast members. After the pitch went viral, Long contacted former cast members and eventually approached Bunim/Murray Productions. In August 2020, Long and the production company announced a partnership to develop the series. Long served as both a cast member and an executive producer. Additional executive producers include Julie Pizzi, Justin Booth, Dan Caster, and Leanne Mucci, with Jack Reifert as co-executive producer. The show was officially announced on February 24, 2021. A second season premiered on November 11, 2021, and a third on May 11, 2022. The fourth season, filmed in early 2023 in South Africa, premiered on April 10, 2024, and for the first time included a cast member who originally debuted on Are You the One?. On December 18, 2024, a fifth season with a Rivals theme was announced, set to premiere on MTV on January 29, 2025, with casting expanded to include participants from Big Brother, Ex on the Beach, Survivor, Shipwrecked, and 12 Dates of Christmas.
