Production

Michael Seitzman and Jason Richman first started working on a TV version of The Rainmaker in 2018, aiming to launch it on Hulu alongside a series based on John Grisham's Rogue Lawyer. The two shows were meant to share characters and overlapping plots, letting viewers watch them together or separately, but Hulu passed on both. After Seitzman signed a first-look deal with Blumhouse Television in 2021, he shifted to developing The Rainmaker on its own. Blumhouse took it to Lionsgate Television, and USA Network picked it up in June 2024 as part of a move to revive the kind of original dramas from its earlier "blue sky" period. The network ordered a second season in October 2025. The cast includes John Slattery as Leo F. Drummond, Madison Iseman as Sarah Plankmore, Milo Callaghan as Rudy Baylor, Lana Parrilla as Jocelyn "Bruiser" Stone, P. J. Byrne as Deck Shifflet, Robyn Cara as Kelly Riker, Dan Fogler as Melvin Pritcher, and Wade Briggs as Brad Noonan. Tommie Earl Jenkins appears in a recurring role as Prince Thomas. For season two, Austin Nichols, Merle Dandridge, and Libby Kay were added in recurring or regular capacities.
