Mutant X (TV series)

Mutant X is a superhero television series that aired under a Marvel Comics license, though it shares no storyline with the comic book series of the same name. Created by Avi Arad, the show first aired in syndication on October 6, 2001. It follows a team called Mutant X, made up of "new mutants" who gained their extraordinary abilities through genetic engineering and were once subjects of secret government experiments. Their goal is to find and protect other new mutants like themselves. The series was often compared to a mix of *X-Men* and *The Matrix*, and it was filmed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The main characters include Jesse Kilmartin, who can alter his body’s density at will, becoming intangible or super-dense as long as he holds his breath, and can extend this power through touch. He is the team’s technology expert and the only new mutant known to have lived past his "expiration date." Shalimar Fox is a feline feral with animal DNA, giving her superhuman strength, agility, senses, and healing. She later develops a sixth sense for danger, is territorial, fears fire, and cannot be hypnotized. Emma DeLauro is a tele-empath who can sense and project emotions, and later develops the ability to project psychic energy blasts that can knock out, alter memories, or kill. She initially resisted joining Mutant X but grew close to Brennan before being killed in an explosion. Brennan Mulwray is an electrical elemental who can generate and shoot electricity, enough to power a small city, and can launch himself into the air. Water short-circuits him, and he was once a thief before being forced to hunt other mutants. Adam Kane, the team’s strategist and moral center, is the biogeneticist who created the new mutants and now leads Mutant X to atone for his actions, seeking treatments and using a stolen database to track them. Lexa Pierce, added later, is a chromatic molecular mutant who can bend light to become invisible, shoot light beams, and create blinding flashes, but her search for her brother makes her untrusted.

Recurring characters include Mason Eckhart, former head of security at Genomex, who now leads the Genetic Security Agency (GSA) and hunts new mutants for a cure after an accident weakened his immune system.
