Lore & Background

The series is set in 2307 AD, after the depletion of fossil fuels led humanity to rely on Dyson rings and orbital elevators serving three power blocs: the Union, the Human Reform League, and the AEU. Constant warfare erupts among minor countries, leading to the formation of Celestial Being, a private military organization dedicated to eradicating war using four Gundams. The main protagonist is Setsuna F. Seiei, a 16-year-old Gundam Meister from the war-torn Republic of Krugis.

Reader's Guide

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 is significant as the first Gundam television series animated in widescreen and high-definition. Its use of the real-life Gregorian calendar distinguishes it from previous installments. The series explores themes of global unity, trans-humanism, and the ethics of armed intervention. Its two seasons and film sequel, A Wakening of the Trailblazer, complete a narrative that begins with Celestial Being's interventions and ends with the protagonist Setsuna undergoing Innovation, becoming the first true Innovator. The series influenced later Gundam works and remains a notable entry for its modern setting and political complexity.
