The series was developed by Team Downey, Sonar Entertainment, and Network Entertainment. The first four episodes were released on December 18, 2019 for YouTube Premium users, and the remaining four on January 15, 2020. Upon announcement, commentators noted parallels between Downey's role in this series and his portrayal of Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as both involve advanced technology enhancing human life, and the MCU's coverage of AI including Stark's accidental creation of the AI villain Ultron.
