X-Men: Apocalypse

X-Men: Apocalypse, released in 2016, is an American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics X-Men. It is the ninth movie in the X-Men film series. Bryan Singer directed it, Simon Kinberg wrote the screenplay, and the cast includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn, and Lucas Till. The story follows the ancient mutant En Sabah Nur, also known as Apocalypse, who is awakened in 1983 by the Clan Akkaba worshippers and intends to reshape the world to his liking. The X-Men must stop him and defeat his team of mutant followers.

Singer announced the film in December 2013, with Kinberg, Michael Dougherty, and Dan Harris developing the story. Casting started in October 2014, and principal photography began in Montreal in April 2015, wrapping up in August. The movie premiered in London on May 9, 2016, and was released in the United States on May 27 by 20th Century Fox. Critics gave it mixed reviews, and it earned $544 million at the box office. A sequel, Dark Phoenix, came out in 2019.

**Plot** In 3600 BC, the powerful mutant En Sabah Nur rules ancient Egypt. After transferring his consciousness into a new body to gain a healing factor, he and his four followers, the Horsemen of Apocalypse, are betrayed. His followers are killed, and he is buried alive.

In 1983, Scott Summers develops his mutant ability to shoot concussive energy blasts from his eyes. His older brother Alex takes him to Professor Charles Xavier’s school, hoping Xavier and Hank McCoy can teach him control. Scott meets and befriends Jean Grey there. In Egypt, the Clan Akkaba worshippers awaken En Sabah Nur. He meets Ororo Munroe, a mutant who controls weather, and learns about humanity. Believing humanity has lost its way, he plans to remake the world, and Ororo becomes his follower after he enhances her powers.

Meanwhile, in Communist Poland, Erik Lehnsherr lives happily with his wife Magda and daughter Nina. When En Sabah Nur’s reawakening causes global disturbances, Lehnsherr uses his powers to save a coworker during an earthquake, alerting the Milicja Obywatelska. They hold his daughter hostage in a forest to lure him in. As tensions rise, Nina reveals her animal communication powers, and the police deliberately kill her and her mother.
