Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir is a French animated superhero series. Thomas Astruc created it, and Jeremy Zag developed it. The show is produced by Miraculous Corp., a French joint venture between Mediawan and ZAG Entertainment, with co-production from Toei Animation's European division and other international companies.

The story centers on two Parisian teens, Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste. Using magical jewelry called Miraculouses, they transform into the superheroes Ladybug and Cat Noir. Ladybug wields the power of creation, while Cat Noir commands destruction. They defend the city from supervillains unleashed by their main enemy, Hawk Moth. The series first aired in South Korea on September 1, 2015, on EBS1, before its French debut on October 19, 2015, on TF1/TFX's TFOU block. Internationally, it mostly airs on Disney channels or Disney+, with some exceptions. The show has grown into a media franchise with comic books, novels, and video games. A film, *Ladybug & Cat Noir: The Movie*, came out in theaters in 2023, premiering in France.

The plot unfolds in modern-day Paris. Marinette and Adrien don't know each other's secret identities. Marinette loves Adrien but not Cat Noir; Adrien loves Ladybug but not Marinette. From seasons one through five, Hawk Moth is their foe. His true identity, unknown to the heroes, is Adrien's father, Gabriel Agreste. Using the Butterfly Miraculous, he creates akumas—butterflies charged with negative energy—to akumatize ordinary Parisians when they feel negative emotions, turning them into supervillains under his control. He wants to steal Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculouses to combine their power and revive his wife, Emilie, who fell into a coma from using a damaged Peacock Miraculous before the series began. His assistant, Nathalie Sancoeur, sometimes helps him by using the Peacock Miraculous to create sentimonsters, magical beings with endless forms and abilities.

As Hawk Moth's villains grow stronger, Master Fu, the Guardian of the Miraculous, lets Marinette borrow extra Miraculouses and recruit her classmates as superheroes. Hawk Moth eventually exposes Master Fu, forcing him to make Marinette the new Guardian.
