Legend Quest, also known in Latin America as *Las Leyendas*, is a Mexican animated series that blends fantasy, comedy, and horror. It was created for Netflix and produced by Ánima Estudios, drawing on characters originally developed by Mexican animator Ricardo Arnaiz as part of the larger *Leyendas* franchise. The show holds the distinction of being Netflix’s first original animated series produced in Latin America.
The series debuted globally on Netflix on February 24, 2017. A second season, titled *Legend Quest: Masters of Myth*, followed on October 5, 2019. In 2019, the distribution company CAKE acquired the rights to the series. The show concluded on that same date, ending on a cliffhanger.
The story centers on Leo San Juan, a gifted teenage boy from a Mexican village. When his home is attacked by supernatural creatures, Leo teams up with his ghostly companions—Teodora, Don Andrés, and Alebrije—to stop an evil overlord who intends to erase humanity from history. Along the way, they receive help from a diverse group of legendary beings from around the world.
The English voice cast includes Johnny Rose as Leo, a 14-year-old who can see and speak with ghosts. Oscar Cheda voices Don Andrés, the ghost of a former conquistador who was a barber in life. Annemarie Blanco plays Teodora, a 17-year-old spirit from the future who is actually in a coma and using astral projection. Paul Tei voices both Alebrije, a colorful and kindhearted creature, and Friar Godofredo, Leo’s mentor. Cydney J. Fam (season one) and Jenna Lamia (season two) portray Marcella, Leo’s 16-year-old girlfriend from a family of suspected sorcerers. Blanca Bassion plays the witch Baba Yaga, and Al-Kesne Shaw voices Quetzalcoatl, the main antagonist. Other cast members include Lissa Grossman as Leo’s grandmother, Andrio Chaverra as inventor Thomas Decatur, Gerald Owens as the Norse wolf Fenrir, and Owen Almeida as the young nobleman Akihito.
