Animated series where Rays players become superheroes to save baseball.

Defenders of the Game is an animated family adventure series developed by Onesum Agency in Montreal for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays during their 2007 season, serving as an in-game entertainment experience. The series portrayed several Devil Ray players as superheroes who had to save baseball from the evil Umperor. Episodes

The first season consisted of six episodes. In episode one, "Something is rotten in Tampa Bay," the evil Umperor attempts to destroy Tropicana Field. Team coach Joe Maddon freezes time and leads Carl Crawford, Scott Kazmir, and Rocco Baldelli to a secret headquarters beneath the stadium. Episode two, "Behind The Curtain," has Joe explaining that the Umperor has been corrupting baseball since its creation and reveals the current Guardian, Don Zimmer (Zim). In "Power Up," the Guardian grants the players superpowers derived from baseball's energy force called "the zone," based on their natural abilities of speed, reach, and sonic energy, and they are deemed the Defenders of the Game. Episode four, "Let's Play Baller-Bot," sees Joe unfreeze time as the Defenders begin defeating Baller-Bots and adopt names such as Ace, Stretch, and Streak, but they become overwhelmed. In "Three Strikes And They're Down, But Not Out," Joe freezes time again so the Guardian can teach teamwork, but the Umperor appears and saving the stadium seems hopeless. The season finale, "You're Out," has the Defenders working as a team to go back in time, prevent the Baller-Bots from arriving, defeat the Umperor, and save their fans and stadium.

The second season opened with "The Boyz Are Back in Town," reintroducing Streak and Ace along with three unnamed new defenders; at the end, Zim, Joe, and the Defenders learn they will face a new unknown villain. In "Stats All Folks - Part 1," the new villain Dr. Stat, obsessed with useless baseball statistics, threatens to destroy Tropicana Field, and the new defenders are revealed as Hypnotic, Sluggernaught, and Bossman Junior. "Stats All Folks - Part 2" has the team take their vehicle, the Ray, into space to Dr. Stat's satellite, where they defeat his stats bots, capture him, and destroy the satellite. The season continued with "Welcome To Vinta Vonderland Part 1."
