Announcers
When the Tampa Bay Devil Rays debuted in 1998, Paul Olden and Charlie Slowes handled radio play-by-play through the 2004 season. A new duo took over in 2005: Andy Freed, whose background included work with the Pawsox Radio Network and Trenton Thunder, and Dave Wills, who had spent 11 years as a pre- and post-game host for the Chicago White Sox after previously being the radio voice of the Kane County Cougars. Freed and Wills broadcast together for 18 seasons and were named the best radio team in the American League in a 2020 fan poll. Their partnership ended abruptly when Wills passed away just before the 2023 season. Neil Solondz, who had joined the Rays Radio Network in 2012 as a pre- and post-game host after eight years as the radio voice of the Durham Bulls, was promoted to join Freed in the booth following Wills’ death. For Spanish-language broadcasts, Ricardo Tavaras handles play-by-play while Enrique Oliu provides color commentary.
