Death of the Overmind

The death of the Overmind is the climax of the original StarCraft. The Overmind, created by the Xel'Naga as the single consciousness of the Zerg Swarm, is attacked on Aiur by Tassadar with Raynor, Zeratul and Fenix after the dark templar have slain several of its cerebrates. Tassadar channels his own psionic energy and that of the dark templar through the hull of his command ship and crashes it into the Overmind, sacrificing himself to destroy it. Its death splinters the Zerg into factions; Kerrigan asserts her independence and later takes control of the entire Swarm, and a second Overmind is formed in Brood War from merged cerebrates.
