Updates

The "My Player" career mode is a new addition, letting you guide a player from the minor leagues up to the majors. Hitting and pitching have been refined from the previous game. The "MLB Today" feature provides a live ticker with real Major League Baseball scores and news, and it also lets you play the exact same game happening in real life, with the correct starting pitcher and lineup, such as CC Sabathia for the Yankees against the Red Sox. Commentary now analyzes stats from the current season, the prior year, and the last series, while the crowd noise has been completely redone to sound better than in any earlier version. Franchise Mode has been expanded: you can manage multiple teams, make staff hiring decisions, and handle 40-man rosters for Spring Training and September call-ups. The minor league system spans from Single A to Triple A, and you can draft players from high school, college, and amateur leagues. Teams also receive compensatory draft picks for Type A and B free agents. You can invite friends to play against you within Franchise Mode, and the mode supports online player updates. Like NBA 2K10, Major League Baseball 2K10 marks the series' tenth anniversary, tracing back to its Sega Dreamcast roots as World Series Baseball, although the series itself began in 1994 with World Series Baseball on the Sega Genesis.

Reception

MLB 2K10 received mixed to positive reviews. GameZone's Michael Lafferty gave the game a 7/10, stating that the developers put a lot of time into improving overall gameplay, though the new modes need attention to iron out bugs and some errors are contrary to the game of baseball. He noted that to the baseball fan, the layers of complexity create the overall feeling of Major League Baseball.
