Club history

The Diamond Valley Eagles women’s team first took the court in 1984, playing in the inaugural season of the Women’s Basketball Conference and staying in that league for its first three years. In 1987, the Victorian Women’s Conference started up, and two years later it became the Country Victorian Invitation Basketball League. That same year, Diamond Valley earned CVIBL runners-up honours. The men’s team made its earliest known appearance in 1990, during the CVIBL’s second season. Both the men’s and women’s sides competed in the top division of the CVIBL—later renamed the Victorian Basketball League—every year through 1999. In 2000, the Eagles men were inaugural members of the Big V Championship Division, while the women were demoted to the third division. The women were promoted to the second division in 2006, won that division in 2008, and then joined the men in the Big V Championship Division in 2009, where both teams remained until 2017. In October 2017, the Eagles were accepted into the South East Australian Basketball League for the 2018 season, moving their senior men’s and women’s teams from Big V State Championship into the SEABL. Following the demise of the SEABL, the Eagles joined the NBL1 for the league’s inaugural season in 2019. Both teams missed the finals in their first NBL1 season. The NBL1 South season did not go ahead in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
