Restaurant owner Stewart Jones came up with the idea and then sold it to Sony.[1] More than 10 million copies of the series have been sold.[2]

Making and release

The BAFTA award for Best Casual and Social game in 2006 went to Buzz!: The BIG Quiz, the second title in the series.[2] Buzz!: Quiz World, released in 2009, added features like profiles that store a player's character and buzzer sounds, building on what Quiz TV offered.[3] Both a PS3 version and a PSP version are included in Quiz World.[3] The buzzers or a DualShock 3 controller can be used to play Quiz Player.[3]

A children's spin-off series began in October 2006 with Buzz! Junior: Jungle Party, which contains 40 mini games.[4] Cohort Studios created their first game in the series, Buzz! Junior: Robo Jam, which came out in May 2007.[4]

What the cited sources add

The space includes "Buzz!: Studio", a 64-player quiz where content is fed via MyBuzzQuiz.com, a site for users to create their own trivia questions.[5] Users who hit Buzz ten times within the time limit won a Buzz! Tomato Head for their avatar.[6][7] The "Buzz! Tomato Challenge" event took place in the PlayStation Events Space from 27 August 2009 to 24 September 2009.[6][7] During that event, participants answered quiz questions correctly to throw tomatoes at a large rotating Buzz.[6][7]
