Background
The town grew out of settlers who arrived after the Gold Rush, where the redwood country meets the Central Valley; it was first called Timberville before a railroad surveyor called it the last 'charming' stop before the flat valley. In the series the town has its own police department under Chief Wayne Unser until the county sheriff takes over, and its boundaries reach the Wahewa reservation and Lodi.
