History

A band called An Evening at Elmwood got its start in Perth. The original lineup featured Chris Shalley, John Horner, Robert Livings, Rhys Dixon, and Jamie Mallinder. A self-titled demo with three tracks came out in 2006, when the group still had five members. Not long after, vocalists Robert Livings and Chris Shalley left, so Jamie Mallinder moved from guitar to singing.

Ben Broadley and Colyn Prater then came in on guitar, and Steven Caniglia joined later, which finally locked the lineup into place. That same year, the band put out their first release, the EP "Can You Keep A Secret," on their own. After that, they hit the road with He Is Legend and opened for acts like Elora Danan, Anime Fire, The Amity Affliction, Remain Opposed, Sydonia, The Rivalry, and Angelas Dish.

Also in 2006, a landslide crowd vote with Frontier Touring earned them a slot on the Taste of Chaos Tour, giving them big exposure alongside The Used, Rise Against, Aiden, Drop Dead Gorgeous, The Bled, Gallows, and Carpathian. Once the tour wrapped up, the band played sold-out headlining shows and got media attention, but then drummer Rhys Dixon left. After auditions, Michael Chewter took over on drums.

Learn to Breathe (2008)

In 2008, "Learn To Breathe" dropped, and its release tour saw sellout crowds. Joe Whyte designed the album art after hearing the record and building a theme from its sound. The album boosted the band's popularity, landing them a spot on the Soundwave Festival, where they performed with Saosin, Alexisonfire, Cartel, The Offspring, Incubus, As I Lay Dying, City and Colour, Thursday, Killswitch Engage, Motion City Soundtrack, Bleeding Through, All Time Low, Sugarcult, and others. Right after Soundwave, they joined the Vans Boys of Summer tour with Silverstein, Set Your Goals, and Elora Danan, and also supported tours with The Amity Affliction, Elora Danan, Anime Fire, Angelas Dish, and Calerway.
