A Clue for Scooby-Doo
A ghost in a glowing diving suit crashes the gang's beach party.
A Clue for Scooby-Doo is an episode of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, the first series of the franchise. The gang's beach party is interrupted by a ghost in a glowing deep-sea diving suit, whom they think is connected with the disappearance of several yachts. The trail leads them underwater to an area known as the Graveyard of Ships, where they run into the ghost diver again.
Lore & Background
The ghost is Captain Cutler, a sea captain who faked his death and used a diving suit covered in phosphorescent glowing seaweed to pose as his own ghost and steal ships, with his wife secretly helping him. Shaggy works out that the ghost is Cutler himself, using some seaweed to imitate his beard to prove the point.
Reader's Guide
The episode also reveals where Shaggy's taste for unlikely foods, such as chocolate-covered hot dogs and liverwurst "a la mode", comes from: as a child he received a garbage disposal unit for his first toy. Captain Cutler's diving suit returns in Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, where it is stolen from the Coolsonian museum and brought to life.
