Relocation to Levi's Stadium
From Candlestick Point to Santa Clara.
The San Francisco 49ers moved from Candlestick Park, their home since 1971, to Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara in 2014. The stadium opened on July 17, 2014, about 38 miles southeast of San Francisco, next to the team's headquarters and training facility.

Lore & Background
In 2006 the 49ers proposed a new stadium at Candlestick Point; when talks with the city of San Francisco failed, they turned to a site in Santa Clara, where the team has been headquartered since 1988. Santa Clara voters approved Measure J in June 2010, creating a stadium authority to build and own the venue.
Reader's Guide
The new stadium was criticised for a corporate atmosphere, the most expensive tickets in the league in its first season, and a weaker tailgating scene than Candlestick, and some long-time fans could no longer afford season tickets.
Team owner John York said the club would keep the San Francisco name after the move. In May 2013 Levi Strauss & Co. bought the naming rights, agreeing to pay $220.3 million over 20 years.
