No Way Up

Plot

A Vista Airlines flight heading from Los Angeles to Los Cabos strikes a flock of birds and goes down in the Pacific Ocean. The crash kills the pilots and most passengers. Those who survive include Ava, the daughter of a powerful politician, along with her boyfriend Jed and his friend Kyle. Also alive are a young girl named Rosa, who was flying with her grandparents; her grandmother Mardy, called Nana, also survived.

Ava’s personal bodyguard Brandon and a flight attendant named Danilo round out the group. They are stuck in an air pocket at the back of the plane as the wreck sinks and settles on a rocky seabed. Brandon initially takes control, telling everyone to stay where they are and wait for rescuers. While trying to retrieve an oxygen tank from the front of the aircraft, a tiger shark attacks him through a gap in the fuselage.

He manages to get back to the others, but the shark pulls him away again. Kyle suffers a severe arm injury in the crash, so Nana, who used to be an army nurse, makes a splint and treats him in the rear galley. A helicopter arrives overhead to search for the missing flight. The survivors argue about what to do next, deciding they should follow Brandon’s example.

Ava calculates they have three or four hours of breathable air left. Jed warns that the pressure will eventually crush the fuselage. Just then, the wreck slides further down the rock face, dragging them deeper until it stops on the edge of an underwater cliff that drops into a dark abyss. They choose to leave the plane and swim for the surface.

Rosa mentions that sharks are scared of air bubbles, so the group plans to use bubbles from their inflatable life vests to keep the shark at bay while they search for diving gear inside the wreck. Above, the helicopter crew spots debris floating on the water and sends two divers down to inspect the wreckage. The divers find the plane and the survivors, but the shark attacks them before the survivors can warn them. One diver is pulled away by the shark, and the other disappears.
