Difficulty
A chosen starting difficulty plus a clock that keeps making it harder.
Difficulty in Risk of Rain 2 has two parts: the initial difficulty picked before a run and the scaling difficulty that rises during it. The three initial settings are Drizzle, Rainstorm (the default) and Monsoon. Drizzle slows the scaling and gives players bonus armour, while Monsoon speeds it up and lowers health regeneration.
Background
As the run timer advances, enemies grow stronger and more numerous, and a bar in the top-right corner tracks the climb through named tiers from Easy up through Insane, Impossible and beyond. Eclipse is a separate mode that layers extra modifiers on top of Monsoon.
