History
Cobb created Low Country Sound in 2015. Since early 2016, the label has been based in Nashville's RCA Studio A, a historically significant studio founded by Chet Atkins and central to the Nashville sound movement. The studio is located on Music Row. In June 2016, the imprint negotiated a co-publishing agreement with Warner/Chappell Nash and songwriters Adam Hood, Aaron Raitiere, and Charlie Pate.
Releases
The imprint's debut release was Anderson East's 2015 major label debut album, Delilah. In 2016, Low Country Sound released the collaborative album Southern Family, featuring artists such as Jason Isbell, Jamey Johnson, Shooter Jennings, and Miranda Lambert. That same year, it released Brent Cobb's major label debut Shine on Rainy Day, which received a 2018 Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album. In February 2018, Rival Sons were announced as signed, and Shooter Jennings' album Shooter was also announced for release on the label.
Creative identity
Low Country Sound focuses on music originating from or inspired by the Southern United States, encompassing Country, Outlaw, Americana, Southern rock, Rock and roll, and Blues rock. Cobb emphasizes the performer's voice and aims for a natural, unforced sound. He does not prefer analogue over digital recordings, believing spontaneity and inspiration from new discovery drive a song's organic quality.
