Key facts and history

Mike Curb founded Curb Records and built it into a respected independent label.[1] The label produced number-one records such as "Candy Man" by Sammy Davis Jr. and "How Do I Live" by LeAnn Rimes.[1] Early court rulings favored McGraw, and he stopped recording with Curb in 2012.[3] Curb Records celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015 with 300 Billboard number-one records.[1]

The label has owned and restored historic properties on Nashville's Music Row, including RCA Studio B.[1] Time Warner's Word Records saw Curb Records purchase a portion of its ownership near the end of 2002.[4] In 2016, the portion of Word Records still held by Warner Music Group was sold to Curb, resulting in Word becoming a fully owned division of Curb.[4] A legal action was initiated by Curb Records in 2011 against Tim McGraw, claiming he had violated their contract.[3]

What the cited sources add

The Mike Curb website states that Curb received a Billboard award for co-producing "You Light Up My Life" by LeAnn Rimes, which debuted at number one on three different Billboard charts.[1] The same source notes that Curb's recording of "Oh What A Night" by the Four Seasons was the first record to spend over one year on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.[1] According to the website, Curb's 60th anniversary concert at Ascend Amphitheatre during CMA Fest drew over 7,000 attendees.[1] The site also reports that Curb received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association of Independent Music in 2016.[1]
