History

The story of SSV Stötteritz begins with a gymnastics section in a workers’ sports club that eventually became its own club. In 1911, a football division was created within what would later be called Arbeiter Turn- und Sportverein Stötteritz. That team won its first ATSB championship in 1921, beating Nordiska Berlin 3-0. The following season, they made it back to the final and defeated BV 06 Cassel 4-1. Their last title came in 1923 against Alemannia 22 Berlin. After Berlin protested a 1-0 loss, Stötteritz won the replay 3-1. On 1 March 1924, the club merged with Freie Turnerschaft Südost Leipzig to form Verein für Leibesübungen Leipzig-Südost. They then stayed out of national competition until 1929, when they reached the ATSB semi-finals and lost to FT Döbern. The club was pushed aside as the top ATSB team by Dresdner SV 10, which won four straight titles from 1924 to 1927 before leaving for a separate workers’ league. In 1933, the Nazis banned workers’ and faith-based clubs, and VfL dissolved; its members joined Sportverein Südost Leipzig. After World War II, the club was revived as SG Stötteritz and competed in East Germany’s separate football system. It went through several names within the industry-sponsored Betriebssportgemeinschaft structure: BSG Stern Südost Leipzig, BSG Mechanik Südost Leipzig, and BSG Motor Südost Leipzig. In 1956, it became part of BSG Motor Stötteritz. On 19 June 1990, after German reunification, Motor took the name SSV Stötteritz. Today, the club plays lower-tier football in the city-based Stadtliga Leipzig, which sits at the eighth level.
