Traxxas

Traxxas makes radio-controlled vehicles from its base in McKinney, Texas. The company builds electric and nitro-powered cars, trucks, boats, and one drone. Its land vehicles cover everything from short course trucks and crawlers to monster trucks, with both on-road and off-road options. Speeds range from 30 to 100 miles per hour. Most models do not come with batteries or chargers. The company started in 1986 with electric stadium trucks and buggies. Its first boat, the Villan IV, came out in 1989. In 1992, Traxxas released the Nitro Hawk, its first ready-to-run nitro model. Four years later came the Nitro Vee, the world’s first nitro-powered boat, which also had a backup electric motor. The T-Maxx, a full-sized monster truck, arrived in 1999, followed by the larger X-Maxx in 2015. Around that time, Traxxas introduced a self-righting system that lets a flipped vehicle flip itself back over. In November 2012, the company launched its first aircraft, the DR-1 Helicopter and QR-1 Quadcopter. Traxxas claims several industry firsts: the first fuel-burning ready-to-run RC, the first ready-to-run RC overall, the first driver-actuated forward/reverse transmission, the first remote-operated locking differentials, the first high/low transmission, the first auto-shifting two-speed transmission, the first waterproof electronics, the first 2.4 GHz transmitter with an Apple iOS interface, the first (and only true) 100 mph ready-to-run vehicle, the first self-righting monster trucks, and the first fuel powered marine vehicle. The company has been a title sponsor for Stadium Super Trucks; its president, Mike Jenkins, competed in the series during its first season. In 2016, Team Traxxas fielded trucks for Matthew Brabham and Sheldon Creed. Traxxas also sponsors motocross athletes including Ryder DiFrancesco, Carson Mumford, Gage Schehr, Axell Hodges, and Justin Mulford. It was the lead sponsor for John Force Racing’s Courtney Force, who drives the Traxxas Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car in the NHRA. Traxxas sponsored the Championship Off-Road Racing series until 2008, then became the title sponsor for the Traxxas TORC Series, where it demonstrated products and operated a Mobile Support Center carrying parts, cars, trucks, and boats.
