Lore & Background
Whom Gods Destroy originated from a songwriting collaboration between keyboardist Derek Sherinian and guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal that began in 2020. The project remained unofficial until the dissolution of their previous band, Sons of Apollo, in 2023, after which the debut album was completed in June 2023. The band was publicly introduced via Facebook announcements in late 2023: the group itself on November 21, vocalist Dino Jelusick on November 26, bassist Yas Nomura on December 3, and drummer Bruno Valverde on December 6. On December 12, 2023, they signed with InsideOut Music, a German progressive rock label.
Reader's Guide
Whom Gods Destroy represents a continuation of the progressive metal style developed by Sherinian and Thal in Sons of Apollo, now with a new rhythm section and vocalist. Their debut album, Insanium, released on March 15, 2024, was preceded by two singles: "In the Name of War" (January 12, 2024) and "Over Again" (February 7, 2024). The band's significance lies in its formation as a direct successor project to Sons of Apollo, featuring a lineup that blends American and European musicians. Their music was promoted with a video for "In the Name of War" directed by Vicente Cordero of Industrialism Films. As of the source article, the band had released one studio album and three singles, including "Crawl" (2024).
