Indian/American progressive metal band active from 2010 to 2020.
Skyharbor was a progressive metal band drawing members from New Delhi and Mumbai, India, and Cleveland, Ohio, US. It began as a studio project for guitarist Keshav Dhar, until TesseracT vocalist Daniel Tompkins reached out to collaborate in October 2010. Around the same time, drummer Anup Sastry, who had posted YouTube videos of himself playing Skyharbor songs, discussed bringing the material to live performances. With bassist Nikhil Rufus Raj, the band debuted as an instrumental three-piece at the 2011 Bacardi NH7 Weekender festival.
After signing with Basick Records, Skyharbor released their debut album *Blinding White Noise: Illusion and Chaos* on 23 April 2012. It was a double-disc set featuring Tompkins on one disc and Sunneith Revankar of Bhayanak Maut on the other, largely built from refined versions of Dhar’s early demos. Sastry noted the band was "all Keshav at first," with the live lineup coming together piece by piece. Tracks "Catharsis" and "Celestial" included guest solos from Megadeth’s Marty Friedman. Shortly after the album’s release, Tompkins was announced as the official lead singer. In May 2012, the band supported Lamb of God in India, handpicked by drummer Chris Adler, who later praised them in *Rolling Stone*. That show added guitarist Devesh Dayal to the lineup. Skyharbor made their European debut at Euroblast Festival in Cologne, then capped the year with two headline shows in India. In 2013, they played the UK Tech Metal Festival as main support to Veil of Maya, toured Russia with Monuments and TesseracT, returned to Euroblast, and completed their first UK headline tour before pausing live shows to record a second album.
In late 2013, bassist Nikhil Rufus Raj left amicably and was replaced by Krishna Jhaveri, who had filled in during the European tour. The band took a break from performing to focus on recording, with a more collaborative writing process than the debut. They played summer festivals in 2014, including Download Festival and Graspop Metal Meeting, plus headline shows in Europe featuring new material that emphasized progressive arrangements and ambient soundscapes over guitar-driven riffs. In June 2014, they crowdfunded their second album via PledgeMusic, working with Australian producer Forrester Savell and animator Jess Cope.
